They dragged it along the beach<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And through the coastal range<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Without straightening a single crease,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So like a paper clip<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It grips<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The shoulder of every mountain<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And parenthesizes every gorge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It waits in the dark of night<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In blind turns and shatterings of gravel,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oncoming hi-beams, suddenly<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Appearing, then as quickly dissipating<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the eyes, strangely incapable of adjusting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is no clearing<\/p>\n\n\n\n
